The rivets in that cheap belt of yours fly apart and before you know it you’re wishing you had put on that clean underwear your Mum told you to use that morning!

Over the years, people have found many uses for belts. One of the first was as a storage place for swords and daggers, but once they were tucked in the belt they probably lead to some VERY painful accidents. So the scabbard was invented, and belts became one of the most important pieces of equipment in military history! Later, the belt scabbard was replaced with the holster most of us are familiar with from the Wild West, although maybe not quite as glamorous as the ones found in the movies. Yet a much plainer version suitable for everyday use with one or two holsters and a series off loops for the bullets were standard equipment for every gunslinger. In fact, less prominent versions are still used in the army and police today! The civilian version is called a cartridge belt, and is made for the hunter in three calibers: 12 bore, 20 bore, and 410. They make it easier to carry your ammo while being ripped to bits when crawling through the thorn bushes (I hope to have some cartridge belts available for sale on this website in the near future!). Nowadays the belt has returned to its original form, due to the fact that most items now come in purpose-made pouches that slide on to an existing belt -- eliminating the need to make a belt dedicated to a single job.

Our belts at Woodpecker Leathers are up to any task, and are made with the best bridle leather available. They range from 1” to 11/4” wide, and come in a wide range of lengths. We intend to stock belts as long as 60” or more, depending on leather availability.
